Older Adult Auditor Program
New York state law permits residents 60 years or older to audit classes at state-affiliated campuses free of charge. Auditors participate in class activities at the discretion of the instructor and on a space available basis. Participants identify courses of interest and contact the instructor to determine openings for older adult auditor participation. *
Auditors participate fully in classes, but there is no college credit, nor are any formal records kept of involvement. Auditors are expected to comply with instructor requirements; consent for participation in the program can be withdrawn if circumstances warrant it.
While there is no charge for tuition, you may voluntarily choose to purchase materials associated with a course. In addition, CEO will provide auditors an identification card that can be used for the library, a BU email account, and on-campus computer access, as well as Blackboard. Please see the reverse side of this sheet for details on this and parking permits.
If you are new to the Older Adult Audit Program (OAA), please follow these steps
- Seek instructor approval. To locate a course list go to http://busi.bingamton.edu, then "schedule". Click on course title for a brief description and on course number to see instructor's name, class times, and location.
- Please complete Part A and B of the attached Health Request form and return to us and we will forward it on to Health Services. If you take 12 or more credits in the term, please complete the "TB Risk Assessment".
- Come into Continuing Education & Outreach (CEO) in the Public Service Program Center (PSPC) to sign "the book", receive your ID card which is good until the end of the term. If you signed up at the University Downtown Center you do not need to come to the CEO office on campus. We will mail you your ID card.
If you are a returning Older Adult Auditor, please follow these steps
- Seek instructor approval. To locate a course list go to http://busi.bingamton.edu, then "schedule". Click on course title for a brief description and on course number to see instructor's name, class times, and location.
- Contact Continuing Education & Outreach with course information (i.e. course name, course number, instructor name). We will mail you your ID card.
* Individual lessons on musical instruments are not available through the program and often space limitations in studio art courses mean that older adults cannot be accommodated. Also, all requests for audits in the School of Management must be approved in the school office and not by individual instructors. At this time we can not accommodate older adults in distance education courses. Certain other courses may also have restrictions.
We have included a campus map showing the location for Parking Services, the Information Technology Service Help Desk (ITS) and CEO offices. Please note that my office is in the Public Service Program Center (PSPC).
Your Older Adult ID Card can be used for
